Levi-Strauss' Binary Opposition Theory
Levi Strauss' binary opposition theory creates a bias opinion towards a person or group of peoples situation, the way techniques and actions are used to make conflict. This theory is used even in our life, it is the way media shows us the war and terrorism.
Terrorists on television, that everyday people watch, are portrayed to us a nasty, violent people. They are shown to us as very strong believers of their religion, this tells us that religion is part of the conflict. The way they are shown to us, makes it look like religion and violence are many causes and are what the
terrorist groups believe most strongly in.
The bias is created by the British and American soldiers, we see the British and American soldiers as heroic and helpful. They are there to protect us from danger, even when we see them carrying guns it just makes the public respect them more because it shows the methods of how they protect them.
When British and American soldiers are injured it is shown everywhere to try and get the information out, like television and newspapers.
Religion is not shown in images of British and American soldiers, especially when they are off duty, we are just greeted with pictures of them looking after and playing with children, they look nice to the public.
